The Family Tree

I think that I shall never see
The finish of a family tree.

As it forever seems to grow
From roots that started long ago
Way back in ancient history times,
In foreign land and distant climes.

From them grew trunk and branching limb,
That dated back to time so dim
One seldom knows exactly when
The parents met and married then.

Nor when the twigs began to grow
With odd named children row on row
Though verse liked this is made by me,
The end's in sight as you can see.

'Tis not the same with family trees
that grow and grow through centuries.

USS WHIPPLE DE/FF-1062 Reunion, San Diego, California, October 16-19, 2008

The King’s Inn Hotel will host the 2008 USS Whipple/USS Langley reunion. The hotel features a variety of guest accommodations that include free parking, lounge, two restaurants and a bar with live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. We will have a hospitality room that will be stocked with snacks and drinks. The cost of the rooms will be $90 per night including tax. This rate is good for 3 days before and after the reunion dates. Please call as soon as possible to reserve your room at 800-785-4647. Be sure to mention the USS Whipple reunion and use the reservation code of E60000. The web site for the hotel is The cutoff date is October 1, 2008.

Tours are being planned and more information will follow, I am not using a reunion planner so we are free to do just about anything and I am seeking suggestions. There are many things to see and do in San Diego, including the world famous zoo, SeaWorld, Hotel Del, harbor cruises with or without dinners and my favorite the USS Midway Museum. We could plan a day trip to Viejas Casino and Outlet Center. Free transportation if we meet certain conditions: Minimum of 35 guests with 80% getting a V-Club member card and using them to gamble. I have been to the outlet many times; it is a very enjoyable center. I will have a limited number of USS Midway Museum guest passes; the Midway museum is a very unique experience. Tickets for the Midway are $15 (adult), $10 (62+ or Military ID, active or retired) and youth $8.

Watch the association’s site for the most current information. The address is:

Thank you for your support and we hope to see everyone at the reunion. If anyone has any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me at, or by phone at (619) 448-4380.

Sincerely yours, Daniel M. Garcia
