Whipple Website Facebook Group

Well, I finally did it: I created a Whipple Website group on Facebook. Several relatives have suggested that I do it in the past, but I've been somewhat skeptical until now. (I'm still not quite certain where it will lead, to tell the truth.)

Anyway, feel free to visit the group on Facebook and join if you want to. Your suggestions and encouragement are welcome!

Happy Birthday to the USS Whipple DD-217

That is the subject of an e-mail I just received from Harvey Westfall, who served on the Whipple. It serves as a reminder that April 23rd is the 89th anniversary of the commissioning of the USS Whipple DD-217 in Philadelphia. The second of three USS Whipple's commissioned in the 20th century, it was one of the "four piper" destroyers. The ship was decommissioned at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard on November 9, 1945.

The oft-overlooked uss.whipple.org web site has photos, a history page, and links to other sites/pages about the USS Whipple. Harvey's e-mail notes the following:
Happy Birthday, USS Whipple! (... And thanks to all who served on her!)

Small Search Enhancements

You might not notice it, but last week I enhanced the Whipple Genweb search results page very slightly. Now, when you search for a common name (like "John Whipple" or "Sarah"), the search results are sorted by name. Prior to last week, the "hits" were displayed in a more or less random order. I hope you like the enhancement.

If a search produces no hits, the search results give a few pointers for improving your search.

You can try out the search at http://genweb.whipple.org/search.html.

Let me know if you think of other enhancements. (I can't promise that I will respond in a timely manner. ... But if you ask, I will try to think of a way to implement the enhancements.)

New genweb.whipple.org Server

I just brought the new genweb.whipple.org server online. This server change (like most in the past) will likely cause broken links and other errors.

Please notify the Webmaster (webmaster@whipple.org) if you find errors.

Thanks!
